Special thanks to Erik for capturing a video of a new song I played at the Blue Gill Grill in Haslett in January. This is the first time I’ve played the song live, and I was testing it out at the end of the bar gig.

by Mike Vial

Just got word that the Uptown Coffee House raised $500 for the Howell Opera House! Last Friday, Uptown donated 25% of all of their sales to the Howell Opera House’s “Restore the Glory” campaign. I was the featured musical guest for the night.

Special thanks to the Voght family and Uptown staff for letting me play at their event. Also, thanks to Stephen Schlaak for joining me and playing some of his original songs.

Water Is Alright in Tay – Clancy Brothers

The French drink wine [C], the English tea [G]
The Yankee gulps his hot black coffee [C]
The child drinks milk nine times a day [G]
The Scotsman sips his whiskey toddy [C]

You can keep you wine [C] and keep your tea! [C]
My curse on him that gives [C] me coffee! [G]
I’ll a porter [F], if I may [G]
It makes me feel content and happy [C]

Chorus
Porter quaffed down with a laugh [G]
The gentry have their aching livers [C]
Water is all right in tea [G]
For fish, and things that swim in rivers  [C]
The poor man and the beggar, too [C]
The poet in the corner thinking [G]
If they’d money enough to spend [F]
It’s pints of porter [G] they’d be drinking [C]
Chorus
The miser hoards and stores his gold.
The bee collects the summer honey.
When that miser’s dead and cold
Someone else will kiss his money!
Chorus
Some go in for counting beads.
More go in for chasing women.
The scholar stays at home and reads.
Give me the glass with porter in it.
